Week 10 - Creative sessions

A week full of creativity! We have started this week with discussing each member’s personal view and concepts for our problem statement. We all had 5 possible concepts that where going to be used again in the final step of the creative process. This is an overview of the concepts.

By discussing and telling each other our visions to this problem we all had the chance to motivate and inspire the rest of the group. On Monday, we only had two hours for this part, so we had some time to think about all the ideas before our group creative session on Tuesday.

And that is where the next step begins. A whole day planned to brainstorm on lots of different ideas to tackle our problem statement. Our planning took us step by step through each technique. We started with dividing our problem statement in to four sub questions, this helps to get more focus in the process. For each sub question, we did two creative techniques to motivate the creative thinking. Some of the techniques we have used are the flower association, purge, super hero and future thinking.

After we did al the different techniques we had a lot of various concepts. The final step for today was to place all the concept we had come up with during this session and our individual session in the COCD-box. This box is designed to help make choices when it comes to ideas. You can place the ideas in different boxes.

Here are some pictures of the ideas placed in the COCD-box.

After placing the ideas in the COCD-box we had done enough for this day. On Wednesday we continued with the results of this technique. The red ideas are the ones we wanted to have, so we placed them on the table and started voting. Each team member could give their vote to the 5 best ideas in his or her opinion.

This resulted in 10 out of 17 concepts that where given at least one vote. We went on with the top 5 highest voted concepts.

The concepts in English:

  1. Making objects in cities green (benches, bridges, poles etc.)

  2. Big cube shaped objects placed in cities that are covered with plants

  3. Replacing the edge of pavements with flowers and plants

  4. Biodiverse pillars in cities with plants and shelter for animals

  5. Ball shaped objects that are covered with plants for people at home, each ball attracts a different kind of animal (butterfly or birds etc.)

Out of these five concepts we quickly concluded that number one was still an idea but not a concept, so this one was deleted. Concept 2 and 5 are kind of similar only one is to place in cities and the other one for people at home. This conclusion leaded to combine the two together to one concept. This leaves us with our final three concepts that we are going to take with us in the next phases.

Next week we all worked out our version of the three concepts visual and textual. We are going to discuss these outcomes and brainstorm about the final concept and technical specifications.
