Week 2 - chasing themes

On Monday, we had a little meeting after our classes. We’ve discussed the top 3 of every team member which has led to a new top 3 that represents the vision of the whole team. The subjects that were chosen and had our first interests are environment, energy and water. These three themes were the foundation of a new small and individual research we have decided to do. Each team member had to research current developments within the three chosen themes before our next meeting on Wednesday.

When we discussed our research on Wednesday we quickly concluded we had chosen three “save” topics for our team. They were three themes that we already know some things about and overlay each other. To trigger the team, we laid down our research beside and started to go through all themes again as a group. With each theme, we asked ourselves if this is a theme we find interesting or not. The themes that hasn’t got any interest from a team member where excluded immediately. We want to do a project in which every team member is motivated, so picking a theme in which every single member is interested in is key!

At the end of this session we came up with three possible themes; security, health and disaster. Some fresh perspectives had led to more motivation for deeper research.

Next week we all did a personal research on the three themes based on the DESTEP-method. You can find more about this method here. We researched different factors within a theme and look at important and current ethical issues.
