This week our search for a suitable topic continues. Every team member has researched three themes; security, health and disaster. The researches has been done by using the DESTEP-method. This method has given us a useful handle to not lose ourselves in the immense territory each theme had to offer. With this research, we could narrow the three themes down to one.

Every team member used the DESTEP-method to look at current developments within the theme at a specific part. The D in DESTEP stands for Demographic. So, within the topic demographic we all have searched for developments when it comes to the themes security, health and disaster. Each letter of the DESTEP focusses on a specific part in which you need to do research. This had help us to narrow down the theme.

As a conclusion, each team member had written down three topics within the themes that interested them the most. These were the topics we discussed as a group. Each member had the opportunity to defend and explain why one of these topics are a problem and why we as a team can develop a concept to fight this problem.

After listening to all the chosen topics, we couldn’t decide which specific topic was better, but we decided to dive in a little more in the Global Challenge theme security. Again we didn’t want to go for the save choice, so we chose a theme that interested all of us but still needs a little more research about the problems within this theme.

Next week we will all deliver a list of five main important topics within the theme security. For every topic we need to give a short explanation about what it is and what the main problems are that can be solved.
