MELOTTE

On Tuesday the 21st of march there was a guest lecture from a company called Melotte. Melotte is a company established in Zonhoven, Belgium and is one of Europe’s leading companies in 3D metal printing & high precision manufacturing. The lecture was about the 3D metal printing branch of the company. Their specialty are in the medical/aerospace industry and their main qualities are, maximum raw material efficiency, minimum use of energy and customized light weight products.

For us as students the guest lecture explained many different aspects of the 3D metal printing process and was showed with a more result based explanation. The most interesting subjects we learned were,

The benefits that 3D printing brings that conventional manufacturing methods simply cannot offer.
New structures and shapes that result in complex components that prove to be lighter, stronger, more durable and with higher structural integrity.
The improvement in cooling techniques that can be achieved with 3D printing.
